Vilnius (2025)

Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania.
According to archaeological research, the city's area was already inhabited during the Magdalenian Stone Age. Other sites within the city have been dated to the 4th millennium and the 2nd century BC.
In the early Middle Ages, this tactically advantageous location was probably first settled by Balts, later by Slavs, and from the 11th century onward, also by Jews. As early as the 10th century, a wooden fortification had been built on the present-day town site, around which a settlement grew.
Vilnius is first mentioned in historical sources as the capital of the Lithuanians 1323.

In short: definitely worth a trip, as is the entire Baltic States.
